Ağustos 30, 2007Avril Lavigne Biography
Ağustos 30, 2007Avril Lavigne Whibley [8], better known by her birth name of Avril Lavigne, (born September 27, 1984) is a Canadian rock/punk-pop singer and musician. In 2006, Canadian Business Magazine ranked her the seventh most powerful Canadian in Hollywood,[9] and in 2007 she won ninth place in the Jabra Music Contest for the Best Band in the World, based on fan votes from around the world.[10]
Lavigne’s birth surname is usually pronounced in an anglicized way as /ˈævrəl ləˈviːn/”La-Veen” (in French it is commonly pronounced /aˈvʁil laˈviːɲ/ ). Avril is French for “April”, while la vigne means “the vine” or “the vineyard“.
Lavigne’s debut album, Let Go, was released in 2002, and went on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide [11] and was certified six times platinum in the United States[12]. Her second and third albums, Under My Skin (2004) and The Best Damn Thing (2007), respectively, reached number one on the U.S. Billboard 200. Lavigne has scored five number one songs worldwide to date and a total of eleven top ten hits, including “Complicated“, “Sk8er Boi“, “I’m with You“, “My Happy Ending“, and “Girlfriend“.
Background
Avril Lavigne was born in Belleville, Ontario[13][14] to a devoutChristian family.[15][16]. Lavigne’s musical talent was first spotted at the age of two when her mother says Lavigne began singing along with her on church songs. The family moved to Napanee, Ontario, when Lavigne was five years old.
In 1998, Lavigne won a competition to sing with fellow Canadian singer Shania Twain on her first major concert tour. She appeared alongside Twain at her concert in Ottawa, appearing on stage to sing “What Made You Say That“.
She was discovered by her first professional manager, Cliff Fabri, while singing country covers at a Chapters bookstore in Kingston, Ontario.[13] During a performance with the Lennox Community Theatre, Lavigne was spotted by local folk singer Steve Medd (a relation of the influential Canadian journalist, Ben Medd), who invited her to sing on his song “Touch the Sky” for his 1999 album Quinte Spirit. She also sang on “Temple of Life” and “Two Rivers” for his follow up album, My Window to You, in 2000.[13]
At the age of sixteen she was signed by Ken Krongard, the artists-and-repertoire (A&R) representative of Arista Records, who invited the head of Arista, Antonio “L.A.” Reid, to hear her sing at the New York City studio of producer Peter Zizzo.[13] She then completed work on her first album, Let Go. The Matrix, who worked extensively with Lavigne on the album, commented on her songwriting, saying, “We conceived the ideas on guitar and piano. Avril would come in and sing a few melodies, change a word here or there.”[17]
Let Go (2002–2004)
Let Go was released on June 4, 2002 in the United States, reaching number two there and number one in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. This made Lavigne, at eighteen, the youngest female soloist to have a number-one album in the UK up until that time.[18]
Just over one month after its release, Let Go reached multi-platinum status in late-August,[19] and was certified triple platinum two weeks after.[20] Before the end of 2002, just six months after its debut, it was certified four times platinum by the RIAA.[21] It sold a total of 18 million copies worldwide. It was the best selling album of the year for a female artist and for a debut album in 2002.[22]
Four singles from the album were released. “Complicated” went to number one in Australia, while reaching number two on the U.S. Hot 100, and it was one of the best-selling Canadian singles of 2002. Lavigne tied a record set by Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” when “Complicated” held the number one spot on the contemporary hit radio chart (which tracks air play on the radio) for eleven weeks in a row.[23] “Sk8er Boi” reached the top ten in the U.S. and Australia, “I’m with You” reached the top ten in the U.S and the UK, and “Losing Grip” reached the top ten in Taiwan and the top twenty in Chile.
Lavigne was named “Best New Artist” at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards, won four Juno Awards in 2003 (out of six nominations), received a World Music Award for “World’s Best-Selling Canadian Singer”, and was nominated for eight Grammy Awards, including “Song of the Year” for “Complicated” and “Best New Artist“.
Under My Skin (2004–2005)
Lavigne’s second album, Under My Skin, was released on May 25, 2004, in the U.S. It debuted at number one in the U.S., the UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Ireland, Thailand, Korea and Hong Kong and sold more than 380,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week.[24] Lavigne wrote most of the album with Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, though some tracks were co-written by Ben Moody (formerly of Evanescence), Butch Walker of Marvellous 3, and her former lead guitarist Evan Taubenfeld. Kreviazuk’s husband, Our Lady Peace front man Raine Maida, co-produced the album with Butch Walker and Don Gilmore.
Lead single “Don’t Tell Me” went to number one in Argentina and Mexico, the top five in the UK and Canada, and the top ten in Australia and Brazil. “My Happy Ending” reached the top ten in the U.S. and was her third-biggest hit there, but third single “Nobody’s Home” did not make the top forty. The fourth single from the album, “He Wasn’t“, reached top forty positions in the UK and Australia, and was not released in the U.S.[25] “Fall to Pieces” was released as the final single from the album, but did not do as well as previous singles.
Lavigne won two World Music Awards in 2004 for “World’s Best Pop/Rock Artist” and “World’s Best-Selling Canadian Artist”. She received five Juno Award nominations in 2005, picking up three, including “Fan Choice Award”, “Artist of the Year”, and “Pop Album of the Year”. She won the award for “Favourite Female Singer” at the eighteenth Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards.[26] Lavigne co-wrote “Breakaway” with Matthew Gerard, which was recorded by Kelly Clarkson for the soundtrack to the film The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004).[27] “Breakaway” was later included on Clarkson’s second album, Breakaway, being released as the album’s first single. The song peaked inside the U.S. top ten and provided Clarkson with a substantial hit.
Lavigne went on a “Live and by Surprise” twenty-one city mall-tour in the U.S. and Canada, starting on March 4, 2004, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to promote Under My Skin. Each performance consisted of a short live acoustic set of songs from the new album. She was accompanied by her guitarist, Evan Taubenfeld. The venue in each city was not announced until forty-eight hours before the show. The tour was very popular and was successful in promoting the album. The set at Indianapolis on March 25, 2004, at Glendale mall included “He Wasn’t”, “My Happy Ending”, “Don’t Tell Me”, “Take Me Away”, “Nobody’s Home”, “Sk8er Boi”, and “Complicated”. Selections of this tour were released on the Avril Lavigne Live Acoustic EP, which was released in U.S. Target stores.
Lavigne was touring throughout most of 2005, and pursuing her acting and modelling careers. She represented Canada at the closing ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, performing her song “Who Knows” during the eight minutes of the Vancouver 2010 portion.[28]
The Best Damn Thing (2006–present)
Lavigne’s third album, The Best Damn Thing, was released on April 17, 2007 and debuted at number one in the U.S. The album was produced by Dr. Luke, Lavigne’s husband Deryck Whibley, Rob Cavallo, Butch Walker and Lavigne.[29][30] Travis Barker recorded drums for the record. The first single from the album was “Girlfriend“, which became Lavigne’s first single to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100. On Ryan Seacrest’s radio show Lavigne said that “When You’re Gone” would be the second single.
Lavigne has been doing a small tour to promote The Best Damn Thing, with tickets available only to members of her fan club.[citation needed] She began the tour in Calgary, Alberta, and played for a crowd of around two hundred. This show was aired on television on April 2, 2007, on the CBC Network.
On May 25, 2007, Lavigne, her co-songwriter Lukasz Gottwald, and her record label were sued by songwriters James Gangwer and Tommy Dunbar over claims that her song “Girlfriend” infringes on their 1979 song “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”, originally performed by The Rubinoos.[31] In June 2007, Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk, with whom Lavigne wrote the majority of her second album, Under My Skin, spoke to Performing Songwriter magazine about Lavigne’s songwriting, saying, “I mean, Avril, songwriter? Avril doesn’t really sit and write songs by herself or anything. Avril will also cross the ethical line and no one says anything. That’s why I’ll never work with her again. I sent her a song two years ago called ‘Contagious’, and I just saw the tracklisting to this album and there’s a song called ‘Contagious’ on it — and my name’s not on it. What do you do with that? See, I won’t [call the lawyers], I’ll just tell you. Art should not be subject to that kind of controversy.”[32] On July 6, Lavigne denied both accusations in an open letter on her website, claiming that she had “never heard the [Rubinoos] song in [her] life” and also that she is considering taking legal action against Kreviazuk with regards to her allegations, which she considers “damaging to my reputation and a clear defamation of my character”.[33] On July 10, Kreviazuk made a full public apology and retracted the statements made in the aforementioned interview.[34]
The song “I Don’t Have to Try,” also stirred up controversy. Similarities between this song and Peaches’ 2003 song, “I’m the Kinda” has sparked further plagiarism speculations. [35]
Lavigne recorded a cover of the John Lennon song “Imagine” as her contribution to the album Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur
Film career
Lavigne made her film debut in the animated film Over the Hedge, which is based on the comic strip of same name. She worked alongside William Shatner, Bruce Willis, Garry Shandling, Wanda Sykes, Nick Nolte and Steve Carell. She is also acting in the Richard Gere film The Flock,[37] as the girlfriend of a crime suspect, and her third project is Fast Food Nation, based on her favorite book. Lavigne wrote and recorded a new song titled “Keep Holding On” with Dr. Luke, for the Eragon film soundtrack; it was included on her third album, The Best Damn Thing. The song was released for digital download on November 28, and made its worldwide debut on radio on November 17.[38] It reached the top spot on the Canadian top twenty.
Lavigne made a cameo in the film Going the Distance and also appeared in an episode of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, performing “Sk8er Boi” with her band. Lavigne has also featured in a comic series called Make 5 Wishes. She stars as herself, a pop star, who is idolized by the protagonist of the story. [39]
Music career
Biography of Hilary Duff
Ağustos 30, 2007Hilary Erhard Duff (born September 28, 1987) is an American actress, pop singer and entrepreneur. She has an older sister, Haylie Duff, who is also an actress/singer.
After gaining fame for her starring role on the television show Lizzie McGuire, Duff went on to have a film career, and her most commercially successful pictures include Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), and A Cinderella Story (2004). She reportedly earned $15 million in 2005.[1] Duff has expanded her repertoire into pop music, with three RIAA certified-platinum albums and over thirteen million albums sold worldwide,[2] and she has launched a clothing line, Stuff by Hilary Duff, and an exclusive perfume with Elizabeth Arden.
Her upcoming films include the 2007 action thriller War, Inc. and animated comedy Foodfight!.[3] Duff’s latest studio album, Dignity, was released in April 2007.
Early life and career
Duff was born in Houston, Texas, the second child of Robert Erhard Duff, owner of a chain of convenience stores, and Susan Colleen (nee Cobb), a homemaker. After Duff’s mother encouraged her to take an acting class alongside her older sister, Haylie Katherine Duff, both girls won parts in various local theater productions. At the ages of eight and six, respectively, the Duff sisters participated in the ballet The Nutcracker Suite with Columbus Ballet Met in San Antonio. The siblings became more enthusiastic about the idea of acting professionally, and eventually relocated to California with their mother. Bob Erhard Duff stayed at the family home in Houston to maintain their business.[4] After several years of auditions and meetings, the Duff sisters were cast in several television commercials.[5]
Television
Early work
Most of Duff’s first few acting roles were small, starting off with an uncredited appearance in Hallmark Entertainment’s western miniseries True Women (1997). She also served as an extra, again uncredited, in writer-director Willard Carroll’s ensemble dramedy Playing by Heart (1998). Her first major part was as the star of the 1998 film Casper Meets Wendy, playing the young witch Wendy, who encounters the animated character Casper. Like Casper: A Spirited Beginning (1997), the second sequel to the successful Casper (1995), the film was released direct-to-video with mostly unenthusiastic reviews.
Duff later appeared in a supporting role in the television film The Soul Collector (1999), which was based on a Kathleen Kane novel and starred Bruce Greenwood as an angel who helps a widowed farmer (Melissa Gilbert). Duff won a Young Artist Award for “Best Performance in a TV Movie or Pilot (Supporting Young Actress)”.
Duff’s first serious shot at fame came when she was cast as one of the children in the pilot episode of the NBC sitcom Daddio (2000). Actor Michael Chiklis, co-star of Daddio stated, “After working with her the first day, I remember saying to my wife, ‘This young girl is going to be a movie star’. She was completely at ease with herself and comfortable in her own skin.”[5]
Lizzie McGuire
Before Daddio had aired, Duff was dropped from its cast lineup and became reluctant to continue her acting career. Her manager and mother spurred her on, and a week later she successfully auditioned for the family comedy show Lizzie McGuire. In the series, Duff portrayed a clumsy but average middle school girl. The show focused on her life and her slow growth into teenhood. Actors that starred alongside her included Lalaine, Adam Lamberg, Jake Thomas, Clayton Snyder, Ashlie Brillault, Robert Carradine, and Hallie Todd.
Lizzie McGuire, which first aired on the Disney Channel in January 12, 2001, was a ratings hit, drawing in 2.3 million viewers per episode,[5] and became the career breakthrough Duff had been waiting for. Her participation in the show led to her becoming highly popular among children between the ages of seven and fourteen, with critic Richard Huff of the New York Daily News calling her “a 2002 version of Annette Funicello.”[5] After Duff fulfilled her entire sixty-five episode contract with Lizzie McGuire, Disney considered continuing the franchise in further films and a prime-time television series to be broadcast on ABC, but the plans deteriorated. A successful feature film spin-off, The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003), was produced.
Other projects
During her time on Lizzie McGuire, Duff starred opposite Christy Carlson Romano and Gary Cole in the Disney Channel television film Cadet Kelly (2002), which became the network’s most watched program in its nineteen-year history.[5]
Duff has made several guest appearances in television shows, her first as a sick child in the medical drama Chicago Hope in March 2000.[6] In a 2003 episode of George Lopez, she had a role as a makeup salesperson, and she later reappeared in the show in 2005 as a feminist poet friend of Carmen (Masiela Lusha), a character whose poetry had roots in the work of Simone de Beauvoir, Toril Moi, and Ranjit Hakim. She acted opposite her sister Haylie as the 1960s pop group The Shangri-Las in American Dreams in 2003, and played a classmate and idolizer of the title character of Joan of Arcadia in a 2005 episode. During her Most Wanted tour, she performed in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she filmed a brief appearance on the soap opera Rebelde. She was also the guest star on The Andy Milonakis Show for its third season premiere in 2007.[7]
Duff’s first role in a theatrical motion picture was in Human Nature (2002), an independent film shot before Lizzie McGuire and first shown at the Cannes and Sundance film festivals.[8] Written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry, the film follows a female naturalist, played by Patricia Arquette. Duff played the younger version of Arquette’s character.
2003–2004
Her first major role in a feature film was in the family action film Agent Cody Banks with Frankie Muniz in 2003. The film received positive reviews and was successful enough to spawn a sequel, in which Duff did not participate. Afterwards, Duff reprised her role as Lizzie McGuire for The Lizzie McGuire Movie, which exceeded box office expectations earning $55,534,455 worldwide.[9]
Later that year, Duff played one of the twelve children of Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt in the family film Cheaper by the Dozen, which remains her highest grossing film. She reprised her role in the sequel to the film called Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005), which failed to be as financially successful as the original film and was panned by critics.
In 2004, Duff starred in the romantic comedy A Cinderella Story, an update of Charles Perrault’s fairy tale Cinderella. The film became a moderate box office hit, and though reviews were mostly negative, some critics were impressed by Duff’s performance and her chemistry with co-star Chad Michael Murray. A Cinderella Story earned $66,068,046 worldwide and was a commercial success.[10] Later that year she starred in the film Raise Your Voice, her first starring role in a drama film. Some critics praised Duff for appearing in a more dramatic role than previously, but the film was heavily panned, with the Las Vegas Weekly writing: “Effortlessly combining Duff’s bad acting and bad singing with bad writing and bad direction, Raise Your Voice is an insulting waste of time that begs to be silenced.” Several reviews were negative to Duff’s vocals (several critics pointed out what appears to be her digitally enhanced voice)[11][12][13][14] and indifferent towards her acting performance. The film received a muted reception at the box office, and is Duff’s least successful film commercially, with total theater receipts of just $13,573,284.[15] Duff received her first Razzie nomination for worst actress for her roles in Raise Your Voice and Cinderella Story’.[16]
In The Perfect Man (2005), she played the oldest daughter of a divorced woman (Heather Locklear), who moves to New York City as she desperately searches for love. Reviews were mostly negative and the film disappointed at the box office, grossing $19,770,475 globally.[17] That year, Duff was again nominated for a Razzie Award, for both The Perfect Man and Cheaper by the Dozen 2.[18] The 2006 satirical comedy Material Girls, in which she co-starred with her sister Haylie, also disappointed, grossing only $14,189,525 worldwide.[19] The Martha Coolidge-directed film, co-produced by Madonna’s independent film production company Maverick Entertainment, starred the Duffs as wealthy siblings who must fight to reclaim their fortune following a scandal. For the film, Hilary was nominated for another two Razzie awards.[20]
2007
The Duff sisters are due to lend their voices to the computer animated comedy Foodfight!, which Lions Gate Films is to distribute in 2008. The film’s director, Larry Kasanoff, said that he is “absolutely thrilled to have the Duff sisters as part of the cast.”[21] Duff is currently slated to star opposite John Cusack in War, Inc., due for release in late 2007.
2002–2004
In 2002, Duff recorded a cover of Brooke McClymont’s “I Can’t Wait” for the original television soundtrack for Lizzie McGuire, and “The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room” for the first DisneyMania compilation album.
Duff’s 2003 album, Metamorphosis.
Her first album was Santa Claus Lane (2002), a collection of Christmas songs that included duets with Lil’ Romeo, Christina Milian, and her sister Haylie. Accompanied by the Disney Channel-only single “Tell Me a Story (About the Night Before)“, it reached the lower half of the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart and was certified gold.[22] The track “Santa Claus Lane was included on the soundtrack to The Santa Clause 2 and another song, “What Christmas Should Be”, was used in Cheaper by the Dozen. Duff sang several tracks for the 2003 soundtrack to The Lizzie McGuire Movie (see The Lizzie McGuire Movie (soundtrack)), including “Why Not“, which became a top twenty hit in Australia.

Duff’s second album and first studio album, Metamorphosis (2003), reached number one on the U.S. and Canadian charts. It became one of the biggest selling albums of the year in the U.S. and has since gone to sell over 3.7 million copies.[23] The lead single, “So Yesterday” (co-written and produced by The Matrix), was a top ten hit in several countries and its music video received heavy airplay on MTV; its follow-up, the Laguna Beach theme song “Come Clean“, became Duff’s first top forty U.S. hit[24] and reached the top twenty elsewhere. The third single, “Little Voice“, was not released in the U.S. and was a minor hit in Canada and Australia. In late 2003, Duff embarked on her first concert tour, the Metamorphosis Club Tour, and later the Most Wanted tour. Most shows in the major cities included on the tour were sold out.[25]
The second DisneyMania disc, DisneyMania 2, was released in January 2004 and contained a duet with her sister, “The Siamese Cat Song”. Another song, “Circle of Life“, featured Duff and other Disney Channel stars. Duff and her sister recorded a cover of The Go-Gos‘ “Our Lips Are Sealed” for the soundtrack to A Cinderella Story, which included two other songs by Duff. The video for “Our Lips Are Sealed” was popular on MTV’s TRL, but the song failed to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[24]
Duff co-wrote tracks on her third album, the self-titled Hilary Duff, which she said had an edgier, rock feel than Metamorphosis. It was released on her seventeenth birthday (in September 2004) and debuted at number two in the U.S. and at number one in Canada. The album sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. in eight months,[23] but its only U.S. single, “Fly“, failed to chart on the Hot 100,[24] despite being accompanied by a popular video. “Fly” reached the top forty in Australia, where the album produced a second top forty single, “Someone’s Watching over Me“,[26] which was the theme song of the film Raise Your Voice. Duff contributed the song “(I’ll Give) Anything but Up!” for the 2004 album Marlo Thomas & Friends: Thanks & Giving All Year Long (2004), before continuing nine more months of the Most Wanted Tour.

Duff’s fourth album, Most Wanted (2005), comprised her favorite tracks from her previous two albums, remixes, and new songs inspired by pop-rock musicians such as The Killers and Muse. Duff stated that it was not a greatest hits album, but that her label told her it was time to release a new album. She had more creative control over Most Wanted compared to her previous releases, co-writing the new material with producers Joel Madden and his brother, Benji, both of the band Good Charlotte. The lead single, “Wake Up“, became Duff’s highest peaking single on the U.S. Hot 100 at the time,[24] and its video received heavy rotation on MTV. The video for the second single, “Beat of My Heart“, was also popular, but the single itself did not chart in the U.S.[24] The album itself debuted at number one on the Billboard 200[27] and became her third number-one debut in Canada. An Italy-only compilation, 4Ever, was released in 2006. Duff recorded new songs for her Madonna-produced film Material Girls, including a Timbaland-produced cover version of Madonna’s “Material Girl” with her sister.[28]
2007
For Duff’s third studio album, Dignity, she co-wrote material with Kara DioGuardi, who co-produced the album with Rhett Lawrence, Richard “Humpty” Vission, Tim & Bob and others. Duff said that compared to her previous music it would be “more dancey” and make use of more real instruments. “I don’t know exactly how to explain what we’re doing, but it’s fun and funky and different, something new for me. It’s really cool”, she said.[29] She has also described the album’s sound as “a little less pop-rock and more electronic-sounding”.[30]
The first single, “Play with Fire“, became a minor club hit but failed to chart in the U.S.; the second single, “With Love“, was more successful, becoming Duff’s biggest U.S. Hot 100 hit and topping the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.[24] The music video for “With Love” was used as the commercial for Duff’s first fragrance, With Love… Hilary Duff, which was launched in September 2006; the video reached number one on Total Request Live. Initially slated for release in late 2006,[31] the album was released in April 2007 in North America and earlier elsewhere. It reached the top five in the U.S. and Canada, the top twenty in Australia and the top forty in the UK. The Dignity tour began in mid 2007. A third single, “Stranger“, was a number-one U.S. club hit.[24]
Entrepreneurship
Duff launched a clothing line, Stuff by Hilary Duff, in March 2004, with clothes distributed through Target in the United States, Kmart in Australia, Zellers in Canada and Edgars in South Africa. The company started as a clothing line but has expanded to furniture, fragrances, and jewelry and it is aimed at the teen and preteen crowd.[32] Playmates Toys released a celebrity doll of her in 2004.[33] In September 2006, Duff released her perfume, With Love… Hilary Duff, which she premiered on The View.[34]
Duff and her pet dog Lola made an appearance in the Electronic Arts game The Sims 2: Pets, which was released on October 2006. In console versions of the game, Duff’s character visits public areas and players are able to let their sims socialize with her and Lola, the dog. However, in the PC expansion pack, players must download the Duff sim from the Maxis website before December 31 she and her dog will be fully playable characters, rather than a non-player character.[35] Duff and celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson have been criticized for displaying the dogs as fashion accessories rather than pets.[36]
Personal life
Duff began dating singer Aaron Carter in 2002. They met on the set of Lizzie McGuire, when Carter had a cameo role on a Christmas episode. The relationship lasted a year and a half. It was reported that Carter left actress Hilary Duff for Lindsay Lohan, then broke up with Lohan and resumed dating Duff. Carter said he also cheated on Duff with her best friend, that Duff “got her heart broken” and that he is “sorry” for his actions.[37] Claymation facsimiles of Duff and Lohan appeared on the celebrity wrestling series Celebrity Death Match on March 23, 2007. Duff and Lindsay Lohan were later reported to have been involved in a “feud” with each other over their relationship with Carter.[38] As of 2007, Duff and Lohan had reconciled. Lohan attended the release party for Duff’s album Dignity and Duff told People magazine that she thought Lohan was “fun” and “a nice girl”.[39]
In 2004, reports emerged that Avril Lavigne and Duff were fighting. “I read that I was supposedly mad at my fans for dressing like me”, Newsweek quoted Lavigne as saying. “They quoted Hilary Duff saying, ‘Avril needs to appreciate her fans more and blah, blah, blah.’ I’m like, excuse me? First off, it’s not even true. I never said that. And second, who the hell cares what she has to say about my fans? Whatever. Hilary Duff’s such a goody-goody, such a mommy’s girl.” Recently, there were reports of drama between the two at a Maxim party in New York – with a complication in arrival times causing an unwanted run-in. Lavigne was said to be furious, pacing around and pressuring her company to leave.[40]
Duff began dating Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden in 2004.[41] Duff’s mother Susan announced their relationship in the June 2005 interview for Seventeen magazine, after a long period of tabloid speculation.[42] In a June 2006 interview with ELLE magazine, Duff stated “…(virginity) is definitely something I like about myself. It doesn’t mean I haven’t thought about sex, because everyone I know has had it and you want to fit in.”[43] Duff later told MuchMusic that she didn’t say the quotes attributed to her in the article and that the subject was “definitely not something that I would talk about…”[44] Duff and Madden broke up in November 2006.[45]
In late 2006, Duff took legal action against an alleged stalker and the stalker’s roommate.[46] On November 3, 2006, Duff’s stalker, Maksim Miakovsky, was arrested for threatening to kill her that weekend. He was booked on charges of making criminal threats and stalking. He came to the U.S. “for the sole purpose of meeting and becoming romantically involved with Ms. Duff.” Miakovsky is being held on $200,000 bail at the Manhattan Beach jail. He was arraigned on November 7, 2006.[47] On January 19, 2007 Miakovsky was sentenced to 117 days in jail and five years probation after pleading no contest to the charges, according to the Associated Press.[48]
Duff is involved with several charities, is an animal rights enthusiast and a member of Kids with a Cause,[49] and has donated US$250,000 to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.[50] In late August 2006, Duff traveled to a New Orleans elementary school and worked with USA Harvest to distribute meals. In 2005, she donated over 2.5 million meals to Hurricane Katrina victims in the south.[51]
In August 2005, Duff said she received veneers because she chipped off one of her front teeth on a microphone during a concert.[52] She subsequently had her veneers redone to match the size of her original teeth.[53][54] By 2005, Duff appeared to have lost weight, leading the media to speculate that she had developed an eating disorder, although Duff has denied this claim.[55] Duff was interviewed on the Australian current affair show Today Tonight and stated that she lost weight by living a more active lifestyle. Later, an article on Digital Spy stated that in 2006, Duff slimmed down to a U.S. size zero because of the media reporting she had gained fifteen pounds.[56] She said she has been feeling pressure to be thin, stating that she is perceived in the media to be either too fat or too thin. Duff called this “judgmental” and “mean”.[57]

Temmuz 28, 2007
Adriana Francesca Lima (born June 12, 1981) is a Brazilian supermodel. She was dubbed as “The World’s Most Voluptuous Virgin” by US GQ magazine.[3] She is best known for her modeling work with Victoria’s Secret and Maybelline. According to Forbes, Lima is currently the fourth highest paid top model.[4]
Early life and family
Lima was born in the northeastern coastal town of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil in June 12, 1981[5] and is an only child to parents Nelson Torres and Maria da Graça Lima, a social worker.[6] She has stated that she is of African, Indian and Swiss descent.[7]
When she was 6 months old, her father walked out on her and her mother.[6] She has since been distanced from him. However, recently, she has been making attempts to reconcile with her estranged father.[8]
Modeling career
Adriana Lima was discovered while shopping at a local mall at the age of 13. When Lima was 15 years old, she entered and finished in first place in Brazil’s Ford Supermodel of the World Search. She subsequently entered the 1996 Ford Supermodel of the World contest and finished second place.[9] Three years later, she moved to New York City, and signed with Elite Model Management. Lima’s modeling portfolio began to expand exponentially, appearing in numerous international editions of Vogue and Marie Claire. As for fashion shows, she has walked the catwalks for big-name designers such as Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, among others. Lima then became a GUESS? girl appearing on GUESS?’ Fall 2000 ad campaign. She also appeared in the book ‘A second decade of Guess? Images’.[10]
In 2001, Lima starred in BMW short film, The Follow alongside actors Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, and Forest Whitaker. The film was directed by Hong Kong film director and internationally renowned auteur Wong Kar-Wai.[11]
Lima continued to build upon her entry, doing more print work for Maybelline, bebe, Mossimo, BCBG and gracing the cover and editorials of more high fashion magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, Vogue, GQ, to name a few. Her April 2006 GQ cover was the highest-selling issue of the year. [12]Her other notable works include the well-famed Pirelli Calendar 2005[10] and the face of Italy’s big cell phone carrier Telecom Italia Mobile where she became known as the “Catherine Zeta-Jones of Italy.”[13]
Lima is probably best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. She first graced the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 1999 and has appeared on subsequent shows ever since. Her most notable walk down the runway was in 2003, where she was the show opener. She is currently a contract ‘Angel’ and spokesperson for the brand.[10]
She is also a spokesperson for cosmetic giant Maybelline New York.[2]
According to Forbes, Lima is the fourth world’s richest top model with an estimated earnings of $6,000,000 between July 2006 and July 2007.[12] She has appeared on Forbes’ Top 100 Celebrities list in 2005 and 2006.[13] [4][14]
Personal life
Lima is fluent in three languages—Portuguese, Spanish and English. In her free time, she loves reading a novel by her favorite author, Gabriel Garcia Marquez.[2] Lima has admitted that she was shy around boys when she was younger. She got her first kiss at 17 years old.[15] In an interview with GQ April 2006 issue, Lima told the magazine that she is a virgin. “Sex is for after marriage,” she says. “[Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there’s no respect, that means they don’t want me.”[16]
Despite reports, Lima denied ever being engaged to rocker Lenny Kravitz[17] and said that she and Kravitz are just friends.[18] She has also been romantically linked to other celebrities in the past, including Major League Baseball player Derek Jeter[3] and Prince Wenzeslaus of Liechtenstein.[14]
Lima in the media
Since her rise to fame, Lima is often cited by popular media as one of the world’s sexiest women. She ranked 7th on FHM 100 Sexiest Women 2007[19] and was chosen as one of People Magazine’s annual 100 Most Beautiful People in the World, in May 2007.[20] On June 13, 2007, she was awarded as “Hottest Girl on the Planet” at the first Spike TV Guys’ Choice Awards but the category was not mentioned in the actual show.[21] Lima was also voted on the Maxim Hot 100 2007 as number 53. She was voted as the Most Desirable Woman in 2005 by visitors of the largest men’s lifestyle website, Askmen.com (she placed 4th in 2006 and also 4th in 2007).

Lindsay Lohan Biography
Temmuz 25, 2007Lindsay Dee Lohan (born July 2, 1986) is an American actress and pop music singer. Lohan started in show business as a child fashion model for magazine advertisement and television commercials. At age ten, she began her acting career in a soap opera; at eleven, she made her motion picture debut by playing both twins in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Lohan’s next major role came six years later with the 2004 movie Mean Girls. It was after this success that the media spotlight first shone on her professional and personal life, including her nightlife activities, and her parents’ marital and legal struggles.
As an adult, Lohan took a role in Robert Altman’s final film, A Prairie Home Companion. While filming Herbie: Fully Loaded in 2004, Lohan launched her career in pop music, recording and releasing her first studio album, Speak; her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), was released in 2005.

Biography
Childhood
Lindsay Lohan was born in The Bronx and grew up in Merrick and Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island in New York. She is the eldest child of Michael Lohan, a onetime actor, and the former Donata “Dina” Sullivan, who has claimed that she worked as a Rockette, though Radio City Music Hall records have failed to verify this claim.[1][2] She has three younger siblings: brother Michael had a role as “Lost Boy at Camp” in The Parent Trap (1998), sister Aliana is an aspiring model and actress, and brother Dakota (Cody) has modeled fashions. Lohan is of Irish and Italian heritage and was raised as a Catholic.[3] She originally pronounced her name ˈloʊhæn but later settled on ˈloʊən; in 2005, Lohan explained to a TEENick audience that she had decided to use Morgan as her middle name because it sounded more professional.
Lindsay’s family was financially comfortable; her father Michael Lohan had inherited his family’s pasta business, which he later sold to trade in futures (briefly becoming President of New York Futures Traders).[4] More recently, he worked as an investment banker, securing funding for independent films. Lohan’s mother Dina, was a Wall Street analyst before becoming her daughter’s manager.[5] Despite the family’s wealth, Lohan—when she wasn’t tutored on film sets—attended public schools on Long Island until just before her high school graduation, finishing her studies at home.[6]
It was revealed in 2004 that Michael Lohan had spent much of his daughter’s preteen years in prison for securities fraud.[7] In 2005, he was sent back to prison for “aggravated unlicensed driving” and attempted assault.[8] Later that year, Lohan’s parents settled their divorce case; her mother’s attorney said, “Dina and the children are delighted that this chapter in their lives is finally over,” while her father (through his lawyer) said, “[I] look forward to the opportunity to rebuild my relationship with my children.”[9]
Career
1996-2003: Rise to fame
Lohan began her career with Ford Models at age three and, at the time when blue-eyed blondes were in highest demand, the freckle-faced, auburn-haired child found little work as a fashion model.[10] She persisted and eventually appeared in more than 100 print ads for Toys “R” Us.[11] She also modeled for Calvin Klein Kids (usually with siblings Michael and Ali) and Abercrombie Kids. Through young adulthood, Lohan was featured in such diverse magazines as Vogue, Elle, Bliss (UK), Хай Клуб (High Club, Bulgaria), and Blenda (Japan).
Lohan’s first auditions for television work did not go well; by the time she tried out for a Duncan Hines commercial, she told her mother that she would give up if she did not get the job.[10] She was hired, and Lohan went on to appear in over 60 commercials, including a Jell-O gelatin spot with Bill Cosby. Her ad work led to roles in soap operas, and she was already considered a show-business veteran[11] in 1996 when she landed the role of Alexandra “Alli” Fowler on Another World, “where she delivered more dialogue than any other ten-year-old in daytime serials” of the time.[12]
Lohan gave up Another World for the big screen, when director Nancy Meyers casted her to play the dual roles as the estranged twin sisters who try to reunite their long-divorced parents (Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson) in The Parent Trap (1998). Hired in 1997 at age 10, Lohan was 11 when filming began in England and California (in Los Angeles and the Napa Valley). “I left school for eight months,” she said. “When I came back, my friends [asked], ‘Where’d you go?’ I said, ‘My family and I went on a long vacation.’ Then the movie came out, and they were, like, ‘Um, Lindsay? That’s you in Parent Trap,’ and I said, ‘Oh, yeah. I also did this movie while we were gone.’”[7] Trap was well-received for a family comedy, bringing in US$92 million worldwide.[13] Film critic Janet Maslin found Lohan’s dual performances so forceful “that she seems to have been taking shy violet lessons from Sharon Stone.”[14] Critic Kenneth Turan called Lohan “the soul of this film as much as Hayley Mills was of the original, and … she is more adept than her predecessor at creating two distinct personalities”.[15]
Signed by Disney to a three-film contract, Lohan was offered the role of Penny in Inspector Gadget but, after seven months’ work on The Parent Trap, she turned it down.[5] Later, she starred in two original television movies, Life-Size (2000) (with Tyra Banks) and Get a Clue (2002). She also played Bette Midler’s daughter in the first episode of the short-lived series, Bette (2000), but Lohan—then 14—quit when the production moved from New York to Los Angeles. In 2001, she hosted the ABC-TV commercial series commemorating Walt Disney’s 100th birthday during a rebroadcast of The Parent Trap.
Following a brief hiatus, Lohan won a lead role in another Disney remake; Freaky Friday (2003) starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Through 2005, Friday has been Lohan’s biggest commercial film success, earning US$160 million worldwide.[16]
2004-Present: Film success
In 2004, Lohan was given the lead in two films, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (her first feature that was not a remake) and Paramount’s Mean Girls, both released in 2004. Drama Queen was a modest success at the box office, grossing about US$30 million, but was a failure with critics. “Though still a promising star,” Robert K. Elder wrote, “Lohan will have to do a little penance before she’s forgiven for Confessions.”[17] That “penance” came with Mean Girls, her first PG-13 (and first non-Disney) film; her breakout lead performance[18] pushed the critical and commercial hit to gross US$128 million worldwide, “cementing her status as the new teen movie queen,” wrote Brandon Gray.[19] “Lohan dazzles us once more,” said Steve Rhodes. “The smartly written script is a perfect match for her intelligent brand of comedy.”[20]
Mean Girls was scripted by Tina Fey and featured several alumni of Saturday Night Live; Lohan was asked to host the show three times, in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Lohan returned to Disney for Herbie: Fully Loaded (2005), the fifth film in the long-dormant Herbie series. Her rising popularity allowed her to choose from a wider variety of projects and, at age 19, Lohan felt Herbie would help her make the transition into more grown-up roles.[6] “In most of my other films, I was in high school,” she said. “Here, [my character is] just out of college. It’s nice to be able to do something that I think will be acceptable to the fan base I’ve accumulated from my Disney movies, but subconsciously they’ll see me getting older and maturing.”[21] Fully Loaded earned $144,146,816 worldwide.[22]
Her next film in wide release, Just My Luck, opened in May 2006 to poor reviews and earned only $38 million worldwide.[23] The following month, A Prairie Home Companion, in limited release ended its run with $25,648,948 globally.[24] “Lohan rises to the occasion,” wrote Peter Travers, “delivering a rock-the-house version of ‘Frankie and Johnny‘.”[25] Lohan completed filming the independent Emilio Estevez film, Bobby, opposite Elijah Wood, in December 2005; the film débuted at the Venice Film Festival on September 5, 2006, and was released in theaters on November 23, 2006, though it earned a weak $19,560,892 worldwide with mixed reviews. Chapter 27 with Jared Leto began filming in New York on January 9, 2006, and had wrapped by March. No release date has been announced.
Lohan starred in Georgia Rule opposite Felicity Huffman and Jane Fonda which was released May 11, 2007. The film was met with harsh reviews and a opening weekend total of just $6.7 million and has a tepid total of $22,224,343 worldwide. Lohan will next be seen in I Know Who Killed Me when the movie opens July 27, 2007[26], in which she, as told to David Letterman, will play a stripper and that it’s a “really dark, scary film.”[27]
Lohan was the first living person to have a “My Scene Goes Hollywood” doll released by Mattel (in 2005). She also voiced herself in the direct-to-DVD feature film based on the dolls.[28]
Lohan was voted #10 on the list of “100 Sexiest Women” by readers of FHM.[29] Maxim placed her at #3 on its 2006 Hot 100 list.[30]
In 2007, Lohan placed at #1 on the Maxim “Hot 100″.[31][32]
Lohan was supposed to film star in the film “Poor Things” which was supposed to start filming in May. But because of her stints in rehab, her role will be replaced.[33]It is now said Lohan will star in the film, “Dare to Love Me” which is slated to start filming in September in Romania.
Personal life and struggles
Lohan has been portrayed as a “party girl” who frequented clubs with Nicole Richie and Paris and Nicky Hilton, among others (”people [say], ‘Oh, she goes out and she parties,’” Lohan said. “No, we are just going out and having fun.”).[34]
Accidental exposures to paparazzi brought repeated rumors of breast enhancement (”they’re real though,” she asserted).[35] Lohan later lampooned the various rumors on Saturday Night Live.
Lohan’s three car accidents in 2005 made headlines. The first was a minor rear-ender, though the victims later threatened to sue her.[36] In the second, she suffered minor injuries when a paparazzi who was following her for a photograph hit her car. Police called the crash intentional, but prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to file criminal charges.[37] In the third, Lohan struck a van in West Hollywood. Police ruled that the van’s driver made an illegal U-turn.[38] When VH1 named Lohan “Big ‘It’ Girl” for its ‘Big’ in ‘05 Awards in December, it was, Lohan quipped, “because being Big in ‘05 means getting in three car crashes in one year, people!”.[39]
Lohan was interviewed for the March 2006 issue of Allure magazine; she said she hoped to be taken seriously as an actress, adding, “I hate it when people call me a teen queen.” She addressed the numerous romantic rumors (”I know now that I don’t need a boyfriend.”) and her weight loss (”I will say that I went through a phase. I lost weight when I was in the hospital, and then I wanted to keep it off.”). Lohan said 2005 “felt like five lifetimes because I’ve grown up a lot”.[40]
2007
On January 18, Lohan checked herself in to the Wonderland Center rehabilitation facility in the Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles. Through her representative, she issued a statement saying, “I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health.”[41]
On May 26, Lohan’s fourth auto accident occurred during which the Beverly Hills Police Department arrested her and issued a summons for driving under the influence. The police discovered a “usable” quantity of a substance tentatively identified to be cocaine at the scene.[42] Two days later, Lohan entered the Promises rehabilitation facility.[43]. This facility had been brought to national attention a few months earlier when pop singer Britney Spears completed a 30-day stay there.
In the pre-dawn hours of July 24, Santa Monica police responded to a 911 call from the driver of a Cadillac Escalade that was being chased by an SUV. Lohan, driving the white Yukon SUV, was chasing the Cadillac Escalade, driven by her ex-personal assistant’s mother, the assistant having quit a few hours prior to the chase[44]. Lohan, failing a field sobriety test at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and driving on a suspended license. [45] At the police station, officers conducted blood tests for alcohol level, and Lohan’s concentration registered between 0.12 and 0.13; 0.08 is the legal limit. A small amount of cocaine was found in her pants pocket when she was searched. [46]
Lohan was booked on two misdemeanor charges, investigation of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license, as well as two felony charges, possession of cocaine and transport of a narcotic.[47] A few hours after Lohan’s release, Lohan’s attorney, Blair Berk, issued a statement:
-
- “Addiction is a terrible and vicious disease. Since Lindsay transitioned to outpatient care, she has been monitored on a SCRAM ["Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor," [1]] bracelet and tested daily in order to support her sobriety. Throughout this period, I have received timely and accurate reports from the testing companies. Unfortunately, late yesterday I was informed that Lindsay had relapsed. The bracelet has now been removed. She is safe, out of custody and presently receiving medical care.”[48]
She was scheduled to go on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on the day of her arrest. As a result, she missed the taping, and Leno instead interviewed comedian Rob Schneider who impersonated her.
Music career
Hoping to become a “triple threat” (actor/model/singer) like her idol, Ann-Margret, Lohan began by showcasing her singing talents through her films.[34] For the Freaky Friday soundtrack, she sang the closing theme, “Ultimate”; she also recorded four songs for the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen soundtrack.
Producer Emilio Estefan, Jr. signed Lohan to a five-album production deal in 2002. “The minute I heard her sing, I knew she was gifted,” he said, “and [she] has an incredible ability to connect with her audience. I am very excited to be working with her.” Lohan—who said she was “extremely excited”—added, “I am surrounded by a group of very talented people.”[49] Two years later, Lohan signed a recording contract with Casablanca Records, headed by “diva-maker” Tommy Mottola. Her debut album, Speak, was released in December 2004, and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. By early 2005, it was certified Platinum. Though primarily a pop-rock album, Speak was introduced with the single “Rumors“, described by Rolling Stone as “a bass-heavy, angry club anthem”.[50] Its sexually suggestive video reached number one on MTV’s TRL and was nominated for Best Pop Video at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. “Rumors” eventually earned a Gold certification in America.
“[W]ith just two hit films under her belt”, wrote Stephen Thomas Erlewine of All Music Guide, “Lohan decided it was time to turn [herself] into a multimedia, cross-platform star … and so Speak was recorded quickly and rushed into the stores”. He called her music “a blend of old-fashioned, Britney-styled dance-pop and the anthemic, arena rock sound pioneered by fellow tween stars Hilary Duff and Ashlee Simpson. [However,] Lohan stands apart from the pack with her party-ready attitude and her husky voice”.[51]
In December 2005, her second album, A Little More Personal (Raw), debuted at number 20 on the Billboard 200 chart, but fell under the top 100 within six weeks. Reviews were unfavorable; critics wondered why an album in which Lohan poured out her heart came across instead as a “slick pop production.”[52] Slant magazine called it “contrived … for all the so-called weighty subject matter, there’s not much meat on these bones.”[53] Still, A Little More Personal (Raw) was certified Gold on January 18, 2006. The music video for the album’s first single, “Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)“—directed by Lohan and featuring the acting debut of her sister, Ali—was a dramatization of the pain Lohan says her family has suffered at the hands of her father.[54] She said “It’s kind of offensive” but “I hope he sees the positive side of the video rather than the negative.”
Universal Music Group moved Lohan from Casablanca to Motown Records in February 2006.[55] In March, she told OK! magazine that she was writing lyrics for her third album, which she called “different [from] the first two”.[56] The November 2006 edition of In Style reported a Christmas 2006 release, but it was pushed back.
In a May 2007 interview in Nylon Lohan stated that she plans to record her third studio album in August 2007, saying “I want to do a tour like Madonna. [...] I want to do what Britney was doing. I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, and Justin Timberlake.”.[57]
Lohan recently told MTV News that she will begin work on her third album in “June or July and take four months”. The album is reported to be a new musical direction for Lohan, who is working with Maverick Records CEO Guy Oseary on an “urban pop” sound.[58]

She was on the The Hollywood Reporter’s list of the top ten actress salaries in 2002, 2003, and 2004.[6] She received $15,000,000 for her role in Monster-in-Law. Her top-grossing film domestically is Maid in Manhattan which grossed $94,011,225. Meanwhile, her most successful film internationally is Shall We Dance? which grossed $112,238,000 at the international box office. Domestically, Shall We Dance? grossed $57,890,460 for a total of $170,128,460 in worldwide tally. Lopez has sold over forty-eight million records worldwide.[7] Lopez made the 2007 Forbes magazine’s list of The 20 Richest Women In Entertainment and ranked ninth. Her wealth is estimated to be $110 million.[8]
On the 6 (1999)
Lopez’s debut album On the 6, a reference to the 6 subway line she used to take growing up in Castle Hill, was released on June 1, 1999, and reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. The album featured the multi-week Billboard Hot 100 number-one lead single, “If You Had My Love“, as well as the top ten hit “Waiting for Tonight“. It contained the Spanish language, Latin-flavored duet “No Me Ames” with Marc Anthony. Though “No Me Ames” never had a commercial release, it reached number one on the U.S. Hot Latin Tracks. Despite this, the music video for “No Me Ames” received moderate airplay on the music channels VH1 (United States) and The Box (United Kingdom). On the 6 featured guest artists such as Big Pun and Fat Joe on the track “Feelin’ So Good“, which failed to make the top fifty of the Billboard Hot 100. “Let’s Get Loud“, the final single, earned Lopez a Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Dance Recording” category in 2001 Grammy Awards. “Waiting for Tonight” was nominated for the same category the previous year. “No Me Ames” received two nominations at the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards — “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal” and “Best Music Video”.
[edit] J. Lo (2001)
Lopez’s second album, J. Lo, was released on January 23, 2001 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. When her film The Wedding Planner achieved number one shortly after, Lopez become the first actress-singer to have a film and an album at number one in the same week.[9] The lead single, “Love Don’t Cost a Thing“, was her first number-one single in the United Kingdom and took her into the top five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. She followed it up with “Play” which gave her another top twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number three in the UK. Her next two singles were “I’m Real” and “Ain’t It Funny” which were quickly rising up the charts. To capitalize on this, Lopez asked The Inc. Records (then known as Murder Inc.) to remix both songs, which featured rap artists Ja Rule (on both) and Caddillac Tah (on the “Ain’t It Funny” remix). Both remixes reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks. She re-released J. Lo on her thirty-second birthday with the remix of “I’m Real” as a bonus track.
[edit] J to tha L-O!: The Remixes (2002)
Following the success of the re-release of J. Lo, Lopez decided to devote an entire album to the remixing effort, releasing J to tha L-O!: The Remixes, on February 5, 2002. This album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, becoming the first remix album in history to debut at the top on the chart.[10] Featured artists on J to tha L-O!: The Remixes included P. Diddy, Fat Joe, and Nas, and the album included rare dance and hip hop remixes of past singles. Lopez’s album is the first remix album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200.[10] It is the third all-time biggest-selling remix album in the world, after Michael Jackson’s Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix (1997) and Madonna’s You Can Dance (1987).
[edit] This Is Me… Then (2002)
On November 26, 2002, Lopez released her third studio album, This Is Me… Then, which reached number two on the Billboard 200 and spawned four singles: “Jenny from the Block” (featuring Jadakiss and Styles P), which reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100; “All I Have” (featuring LL Cool J), which spent multiple weeks at number one; “I’m Glad“; and “Baby I Love U!“. The album included a cover of Carly Simon’s 1978 “You Belong to Me”. It performed well on the charts, selling over three million copies in the United States alone.
The video for “I’m Glad” recreated scenes from the 1983 film Flashdance, leading to a lawsuit over copyright infringement.[11][12]
[edit] Rebirth (2005)
After a year away from the music scene, Lopez released her fourth studio album, Rebirth, on March 1, 2005. Although debuting and peaking at number two on the Billboard 200, the album quickly fell off the charts. It spawned the hit “Get Right“, which reached the top fifteen in the U.S. and became her second Platinum hit (after “If You Had My Love”). “Get Right” was also successful in the UK, becoming her second number-one single there. The second single, “Hold You Down“, which featured Fat Joe, reached number sixty-four on the U.S. Hot 100; it peaked at number six in the UK and ascended to the top twenty in Australia. Another song, “Cherry Pie”, was slated for a fall release, but the plans to make a video were cancelled as the album sales were definitely too weak and the promotion budget exceeded. It was released to radio stations in Spain. Rebirth was certified Platinum in the U.S. by the RIAA. Nevertheless, Lopez was featured on LL Cool J’s single “Control Myself“, which was released on February 1, 2006. It reached number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK Singles Chart. It was Lopez’s first U.S. top ten hit in three years.
[edit] Como Ama una Mujer (2007)
Lopez officially released her first full Spanish-language album, called Como Ama una Mujer, on March 27, 2007 in the U.S. and March 23, 2007 in Europe. The album peaked at number ten on the U.S. Billboard 200, number one on the U.S. Top Latin Albums (for four straight weeks), number one on the U.S. Latin Pop Albums (for seven straight weeks), and number one hundred and thirty-one in the UK. It set the record for largest sales for a Spanish debut album. The album did well in Europe peaking at number three on the albums chart, mainly due to the big success in countries like Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Portugal. The lead single, “Qué Hiciste” (Spanish for “What You Did”), was officially released to radio stations in January 2007. Since then, it has peaked at eighty-six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot Latin Songs and the Hot Dance Club Play. It also went top ten on the European chart. The video for the song was the first Spanish-language video to peak at number one on MTV’s Total Request Live daily countdown. The second single has been confirmed to be “Me Haces Falta” as she announced on MTV News. But the release will be postponed so as not to clash with El Cantante Soundtrack, Toma De Mi.
[edit] Diva (2007)
Lopez is working on her fifth English studio album, in which she is mainly working with producer Swizz Beatz. “It’s coming out incredible”, he said. “We’re putting together some great things, and not what everyone’s expecting. Think a little Jamiroquai, a little Sade. It’s real feel-good music”. Other rumored producers are Timbaland, Cory Rooney, Jermaine Dupri, and newcomers Lynn & Wade. It has been confirmed to be released in September 2007 and that Jonathan Rotem is working on some tracks.[13] SheOn March 27, 2007, Lopez appeared on MTV’s Total Request Live and stated that the album will be out in September and said that she is choosing between four uptempo songs for the first single. Lopez played one of the tracks in Las Vegas in late April. She stated she will finally be going on tour in late 2007 with a mix of her English and Spanish music. MTV News reports that the as-yet-untitled album will see Lopez return to pop, R&B and hip-hop sounds. The singer and actress has teamed up once again with music producer Cory Rooney for the record and has also been working with Beyoncé and Eve collaborator Swizz Beatz. Speaking to MTV News about the album, Lopez said: “I’m really excited about it. The first single will be out this summer. And, you know, it’s very different from my Spanish album. My Spanish album was kind of an opportunity to get away from what I do on my English [albums], to kind of express a different side of myself.” She continued: “This [next] album is more of what people and my fans are used to – you know, just kind of dance, funk, R&B, hip-hop, all that stuff, all mixed up together to make some great pop music.” A slow song titled, “Wrong When Your Gone”, leaked onto the Internet in July, here: [1]. It was announced on July 13 that the albums first single, Hold It, Don’t Drop It produced by Midi Mafia, will be released to radio on August 21, 2007. A snippet of the song has been leaked onto the internet here: [2].
Business
Lopez owns a clothing line, JLO by Jennifer Lopez, whose brand has been licensed for a term by Warnaco Group. Her line includes different types of clothing for young women, including jeans, T-shirts, coats, belts, purses, and lingerie. In 2005, she launched a new clothing line called Sweetface. She is planning to launch a jewelry line, as well as an accessory line that includes hats, gloves, and scarves.[14] Lopez participated in the Louis Vuitton Winter 2003 campaign. In the fall of 2007, Lopez will retire JLO by Jennifer Lopez and launch a new juniors’ line called JustSweet.[15] The ad campaign will be featured in major magazines such as Glamour and Vogue. A runway show during New York Fashion Week is expected.
Lopez’s frequent use of animal fur in her clothing lines and personal wardrobe has brought the scorn of people concerned with animal rights. At the Los Angeles premiere of Monster-in-Law, more than one hundred protesters from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) held a demonstration to highlight their concerns. Lopez told a radio DJ she was open to being educated on the topic.

On April 12, 2002, Lopez opened an elegant Cuban restaurant in the South Lake district of Pasadena, California named Madre’s. A media sensation was creating when during a press shoot for the fancy restaurant, a mysterious man appeared out of the sidelines and gave Lopez a floral arrangement from Ben Affleck, even as then-husband Cris Judd stood next to her. Lopez was widely criticized for what appeared to be infidelity on her part.
Lopez has ventured in the perfume industry, with her debut “Glow by J.Lo” which broke numerous records in sales, making history by being the number-one perfume in more than nine countries in less than four months.[citation needed] In October 2003, Lopez introduced a perfume called “Still”. Before launching another completely new fragrance, she revisited 2002 “Glow” by creating a limited edition spin-off entitled “Miami Glow by J.Lo”, in homage to her adopted hometown of Miami. Around the same time, Lopez came up with a “Glow” body line, which featured different body lotions and bronzers. For the Christmas season of 2005, she launched another fragrance, “Live by Jennifer Lopez”. Most recently, for 2006 Valentine’s Day, “Miami Glow” was replaced by yet another “Glow” spinoff — “Love at First Glow by J.Lo”. Her latest fragrance is called “Live Luxe” and was released in August 2006, with “Glow After Dark” following its release in January 2007. She is expected to release another perfume called “Desire” in 2007.
Lopez is a spokesperson for Lux shampoo in Japan, appearing in the product’s television commercials.
Lopez has been recognized by People en Español magazine as both the cover subject for the “50 Most Beautiful” issue in 2006 and the “100 Most Influential Hispanics” issue in February 2007.
Personal life
Lopez’s first marriage was to Cuban-born Ojani Noa[16] on February 22, 1997. Lopez met Noa while he worked as a waiter at a Miami restaurant. They divorced in March 1998. Lopez later employed Noa as the manager of her Pasadena restaurant Madre’s in April 2002, but fired him in October 2002. After Noa sued Lopez over the termination, they drew up a confidentiality agreement.[17] In April 2006, Lopez sued to prevent Noa from publishing a book containing personal details about their short marriage, contending it violated the confidentiality agreement.[18]
She then had a two-and-a-half-year relationship with Sean Combs. On December 27, 1999, Lopez and Combs were at Club New York, a midtown Manhattan nightclub, when a gunfire erupted between Combs’ entourage and another group. Lopez and Combs were being driven away from the scene when they were chased and stopped by the police.[19] A stolen gun was found in the front seat of their vehicle.[20] Lopez was charged with felony gun possession, but the charges were dropped,[21] as she was riding in the back seat at the time.[22] Lopez terminated her involvement with Combs shortly thereafter, and Combs reconciled with Kim Porter, mother of his three children.
Her second marriage was to her former backup dancer, Cris Judd. She met Judd while filming the music video for her single “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”. The two were married on September 29, 2001, at a home in a Los Angeles suburb. Their marriage ended in August 2002.
Lopez’s subsequent relationship with actor Ben Affleck was highly publicized, with the media dubbing them “Bennifer“. Lopez announced her engagement to Affleck in November 2002, after Affleck gave her a six-carat pink diamond ring worth a reported $1.2 million.[23] Lopez promised interviewers that Affleck was indeed “the one”, and that they would soon have a family. The marriage, planned for September 14, 2003 in Santa Barbara, California, was called off just hours before the event. During the week before the scheduled nuptials, Affleck had been seen by press carousing at a strip club in Vancouver with friends. The media blitz intensified when it was Lopez’s own sister who called in live radio to tell Lopez where her fiancé had been the previous night. Lopez would only respond by saying it was a terrible way to begin the day, finding out about Affleck’s behavior in that manner. Publicists announced a permanent split on January 20, 2004. Affleck has refused to speak of his relationship with Lopez, only citing intense media attention as the cause of the break-up. Their relationship was parodied on the South Park episode “Fat Butt and Pancake Head“, which aired on April 16, 2003. There was a mild media furor as to whether Lopez would give Affleck back his ring after the break-up. Lopez did return it and it was discreetly placed for sale at the original jewelers. Affleck has since married actress Jennifer Garner on July 1, 2005 and they have a daughter, Violet, born on December 1, 2005.

Shortly after her break-up with Affleck, Lopez was seen out with singer Marc Anthony, a long-time friend she had worked with in music videos. They had briefly dated in the late ’90s, before his first marriage and her second one. Lopez and Anthony were recording a duet together in early 2004, for Lopez’s then-upcoming film Shall We Dance?. He had separated for the second time, in October 2003, from his first wife, the former Miss Universe, Dayanara Torres, with whom he had two young children. Lopez and Anthony married in a quiet home wedding on June 5, 2004, less than a week after his divorce from Torres was finalized on June 1. On the morning of the wedding, however, the media was tipped off and circled her backyard in helicopters. Photographs, alerting the rest of the world, soon followed. Reports fueled rumors that Lopez was pregnant but this was not the case.
Lopez’s guests had been invited to an “afternoon party” at Lopez’s house and had not been made aware that they were actually going to her wedding. Days after the wedding, Anthony was promoting his new album Amar Sin Mentiras(To Love Without Lies), but refused to comment on their marriage during interviews.[24] Lopez eventually confirmed the marriage in February 2005, but admitted that “everyone knows. It’s not a secret”.[25] Anthony’s daughter, Ariana, appeared in Lopez’s music video “Get Right” as her little sister. Regarding his marriage and family life, Anthony maintains a private and sometimes defensive stance with the media, which has influenced Lopez to set some boundaries with interviewers.

Mini Biography
Socialite Paris Hilton was born on February 17, 1981 in New York City into the Hilton family and, along with her three younger siblings, is heir-apparent to the vast Hilton hotel and real estate dynasty. Her childhood was spent in palatial dwellings in the priciest neighborhoods on both coasts and featured a brief flirtation with the educational system, including high schooling at the ultra-exclusive Dwight School, from which she dropped out and ultimately earned her high school GED.
Living the glitzy socialite life from a relatively early age, attending exclusive parties and being covered by the gossip press, Hilton apparently became hooked on obtaining celebrity status, which was perhaps furthered by the example of her mother, Kathy Richards, who had a brief acting career herself, mostly on TV. Hilton began a remarkable and well-financed campaign to put herself in the public eye, on screen, on television and in music. This effort has included a substantial amount of physical alteration. A naturally pleasant-looking girl, Hilton underwent extensive plastic surgery, hair coloring and tinted contact lenses in her attempt to reinvent herself as “hot”. Sadly, money could not buy alteration of the physical attribute she most dislikes about herself: her exceptionally-large feet.
Some skeptics have guessed that the endless parade of inane inter-celebrity feuds centering around Hilton are, in fact, publicity stunts, another front in the campaign to keep her exposure level high. It has even been argued that the infamous home video of Hilton with then-boyfriend Rick Salomon, in which Hilton performs explicit romantic activities with Rick Salomon, was part of this campaign as well. If it was, it worked. For better or for worse, it made Hilton a household name overnight, and was even widely marketed as a video, 1 Night in Paris (2004) (V).
Eventually Hilton’s efforts paid off and she got some modeling work, the designers presumably relying on her notoriety. She has been an increasing presence on-screen too, in TV commercials, on TV series and in the movies, at first bit parts in movies such as Zoolander (2001), Wonderland (2003), The Cat in the Hat (2003) and guest-star roles on TV shows such as “The O.C.” (2003) and “George Lopez” (2002), but later more substantial roles in horror flick House of Wax (2005), the direct-to-DVD _Bottom’s Up (2006)_ and her own TV show, the fish-out-of-water reality series “The Simple Life” (2003).
Hilton also has plans to become a player in the music business, has recorded an album and even started her own music label, Heiress Records, in order to release it.
Hilton is widely scorned for what some see as her narcissism, shallow intellect and materialism and for other things besides, but she seems to be aware of the old adage that there’s no such thing as bad publicity and it should be evident even to her detractors that she is ambitious and driven to achieve, rather than simply basking in her family’s vast fortune, as do so many other socialites. In fact, performing is only part of her many activities and she has dabbled in designing, writing (one hastens to add, with a professional writer on the team), nightclub management and even marketing video games – all of which feature Paris Hilton, front and center.
